When in Rome… but did you know the colosseum isn’t in fact a circle? Historians believe the elliptical shape was chosen as it allows for a larger perimeter for the same area, which means more seats for spectators. For example, doubling the area of an ellipse gives a much larger perimeter than building a circle of the same area.
