I survived bear-spotting in Romania. The country is home to 60% of Europe’s brown bear population and around 3% worldwide. If there are 200,000 across the world, how many are in Europe? #tomrocksmaths #brownbear #bearwatching
Tattoo #35 - Maxwell’s Equations of Electromagnetism. Taking the curl of the first two equations, and combining with the second two equations (zero divergence conditions in a vacuum), results in both the Electric Field E and the Magnetic Field B satisfying the wave equation. This is how mathematicians showed that light is a wave. Mind-blowing. #tomrocksmaths #maxwell #electromagnetism
NEW VIDEO: I learn to play guitar following the Guitar Fundamentals course by @mikeboydvideo. There's a lot of overlap between maths and music, but does that mean I'll find learning guitar any easier? Join the premiere at 4pm (GMT+1) to find out! Watch at tomrocksmaths.com (link on profile) #tomrocksmaths #mikeboyd #learnguitar
Did you see my video for @National_Numeracy Day on how to quickly multiply together two 2-digit numbers? I explain why the method works and then set some questions so you can try it out for yourself - have a go and let me know how you get on! Watch at tomrocksmaths.com (link on profile) #tomrocksmaths #nationalnumeracyday #bignumbernatter
To celebrate @national_numeracy Day I've been talking to World Slam Poetry Champion @harrybakerpoet about the intersection of Maths and Rap... The short videos are being released on the hour, every hour on Twitter, so keep checking back for updates! You certainly don't want to miss Harry's live performance of "99 Maths Problems" at 5pm (GMT+1). All videos at tomrocksmaths.com (link on profile) #tomrocksmaths #harrybaker #nationalnumeracyday
The final instalment in the Cube Root of 2 series of articles from TRM intern Chenying Liu shows us how to construct the length using nothing more than a ruler and compass. Follow along for yourself to see if you can succeed where even the great Plato failed… Read all of the articles at tomrocksmaths.com (link on profile) #tomrocksmaths #cuberoot #plato
