NEW VIDEO: Steve @blackpenredpen answers a real @oxford_uni maths admissions interview question on the divergence of the sum of the reciprocals of the prime numbers… Find out how he gets on at tomrocksmaths.com (link on profile) #tomrocksmaths #oxforduni #blackpenredpen
We're talking gameshows once again - photo taken from my fleeting TV career as a panelist on Dara Ó Briain's School of Hard Sums in 2012 - with another twist on the Monty Hall Problem from TRM intern Alex Homer. This time there are only 2 doors, and before the show the producer flips a coin to decide whether each one has a goat or a car behind it. Monty opens both doors (whilst you are blindfolded) and tells you there is a goat somewhere. What do you do? Find out at tomrocksmaths.com (link on profile) #tomrocksmaths #montyhall #gameshow
I think this is meant to be a bear costume (taken on a university ski trip a few years back)… the aptly named 'Disease' by @beartoothband is the next track from my current playlist. I discovered this band just over a year ago and they have not disappointed. Listen/watch on the ‘Music' page at tomrocksmaths.com (link on profile) and let me know what you think in the comments below :) #tomrocksmaths #beartooth #myplaylist
TODAY AT 6PM (GMT): I'll be explaining the seven $1-million maths equations as part of Cardiff Science Festival. Find out how elliptic equations are used to secure your phone, why a sphere is (basically) the same as a cube, and why you can only plan a route with 10 waypoints on Google maps… Get your FREE tickets via the ‘Events’ page at tomrocksmaths.com (link on profile) #tomrocksmaths #equations #blackboard
I made another Numberphile thing - how can you have a shape with a finite volume (equal to pi, naturally) but infinite surface area? I do the maths so you don't have to… **insert horn joke here**. Watch at tomrocksmaths.com (link on profile) #tomrocksmaths #numberphile #paradox
Doing some marking ahead of my Fourier Series and PDEs class this afternoon... get your own Tom Rocks Maths merchandise @beautiful.equations with FREE international shipping this weekend on all orders over £30.
