Tattoo #52 - Sigrún, Queen of the Valkyries. Defeating her in God of War was probably the most fun - and most frustrated - I’ve ever been playing a video game. An epic challenge to end an incredible game. Left hand side is fresh and right hand side is healed (each took 4 hours). #tomrocksmaths #sigrun #valkyrie
NEW VIDEO: Parabolic Mirrors @numberphile_official. One of my favourite geometry calculations which shows how a parabola focuses all incoming horizontal beams into a single point, making it ideal for satellites, torches, and listening devices. Watch at tomrocksmaths.com (link on profile) #tomrocksmaths #numberphile #parabolicmirror
NEW VIDEO: Direct Sum of Vector Spaces Explained. Features a nice proof showing the two standard definitions are equivalent, and 3 fully worked examples of how to show something is/isn't a direct sum. Thanks to @proprepeducation for supporting the series! Premieres today at 3pm - watch at tomrocksmaths.com (link on profile) #tomrocksmaths #oxfordlinearalgebra #directsum
Did you know the Great Pyramids at Giza actually have 8-sides rather than the expected 4, due to a very slight concavity in each side? It can only be seen from above during certain times of the day when the sun casts a shadow on only one half of each face, thus revealing their concave nature. Now what do we call such a shape? #tomrocksmaths #pyramids #greatpyramids
We've all been there. Excited to head away on holiday, but distraught at the thought of having to pack everything into our surprisingly small suitcase... Well worry no more as TRM intern Molly is here to save the day with some packing algorithms! The images shows the results of three such algorithms applied to 2 cases of size 100 and the ordered list of items: 40, 80, 10, 60 and 10. For more information see the full article at tomrocksmaths.com (link on profile) #tomrocksmaths #packing #algorithm
Just your usual photo shoot with a Rubik’s Cube… Happy Monday :) #tomrocksmaths #rubikscube #photoshoot
