How to summarise the @hlforum? How about making 300 new friends over a week of academic learning, debate, and enthusiasm. A true honour to be invited back each year <3 Roll up, roll up, one and all to see the wonders of mathematics before your very eyes! Welcome to the 28th group of essays in the 2026 TRM Essay Showcase. SO much fun to visit @kurpfalz_internat this week whilst in Heidelberg for @hlforum. TRM Essay Showcase Group 27 (of 30) features deep - and topical - questions asking whether maths can uncover structures without human input, whether the subject is truly logical, and why is it so successful at describing our universe? Yu Deng - 2026 Fields Medal - and Dennis Sullivan - 2022 Abel Prize @hlforum. Such a pleasure to not only be back in Heidelberg for the @hlforum, but also to be asked to host the Opening Ceremony to kick-off a week of learning with the greatest minds in Mathematics and Computer Science. The TRM Essay showcase continues with articles covering the optimal strategy for “Guess Who?”, the topologist’s morning routine, the problems featured in Good Will Hunting, and the connection between study hours and premature greying of your hair. Mathematical creativity at it’s best! Shoutout to everyone in Belfast for a hugely enjoyable day of problem solving in this, and many other, universes. Another group of excellent essays for you to enjoy as the 2026 TRM Essay Showcase nears its conclusion. Five more groups to go and then it will be time to announce the winners shortlist! Well, I guess that’s that then… That’s a wrap on Math50 - an introduction to the mathematics that will help kickstart your journey into computer science. Using only the six numbers given alongside the operations plus, minus, multiply and divide, can you make 903?
