You've likely heard of the 'Monty Hall Problem', but do you know where it came from? And perhaps more importantly, why it became so infamous? Well, don't worry, TRM intern and @oxford_uni PhD student Alex Homer is here to explain… Read the full article at tomrocksmaths.com (link on profile) #tomrocksmaths #montyhall #mathspuzzle
Throwback to this time last year @vidcon London where I met the amazing @marija.dobrovolska and @2romansergeev. Here's hoping we'll be able to hang out again soon!! #tomrocksmaths #vidcon #youtubers
The 3rd and final instalment of the 'Adventurer's Guide to Mathematopia' from TRM intern Zhaorui is now available! Discover the breathtaking scenery of the Land of Geometry, and Probability Place with its randomly wandering sheep and trees of infinite branching. Plus, learn a fun fact about 'punting' in Oxford and Cambridge - if you dare to venture beyond the boundaries and into the 'Non-maths area’ that is… Read the full guide at tomrocksmaths.com (link on profile) #tomrocksmaths #mathematopia #universitymaths
NEW VIDEO: Steve @blackpenredpen answers a real @oxford_uni maths admissions interview question on the divergence of the sum of the reciprocals of the prime numbers… Find out how he gets on at tomrocksmaths.com (link on profile) #tomrocksmaths #oxforduni #blackpenredpen
We're talking gameshows once again - photo taken from my fleeting TV career as a panelist on Dara Ó Briain's School of Hard Sums in 2012 - with another twist on the Monty Hall Problem from TRM intern Alex Homer. This time there are only 2 doors, and before the show the producer flips a coin to decide whether each one has a goat or a car behind it. Monty opens both doors (whilst you are blindfolded) and tells you there is a goat somewhere. What do you do? Find out at tomrocksmaths.com (link on profile) #tomrocksmaths #montyhall #gameshow
I think this is meant to be a bear costume (taken on a university ski trip a few years back)… the aptly named 'Disease' by @beartoothband is the next track from my current playlist. I discovered this band just over a year ago and they have not disappointed. Listen/watch on the ‘Music' page at tomrocksmaths.com (link on profile) and let me know what you think in the comments below :) #tomrocksmaths #beartooth #myplaylist
