A lovely write-up from one of Tom’s recent school visits. The original article is here. If you’d like Tom to come to your school get in touch using the contact form here.

On Friday 24th of February we had Tom Crawford as a guest speaker to talk to our students about Maths applied to the real world. Tom Crawford is an Oxford University lecturer, and is very well renowned in the Maths world with his own YouTube channel Tom Rocks Maths. He frequently deliveries lectures across the country.
At Beal he delivered two lectures, one to our year 12 and year 13 mathematicians, opening their eyes to what studying Maths at university implies and giving an insight into his journey. The second lecture was to some of our brightest year 10 and 11 mathematicians engaging them in how Maths can be applied in the real world, particularly in sport.
Students found the lectures engaging and interesting, peaking their interest in wanting to study Maths at degree level.
Some student quotes:
“The assembly was great! It gave me an insight as to how Maths can be like in university and it was quite interactive. Very enjoyable”
“I thought it was a good experience as it showed me how we use Maths in everyday lie”
“I absolutely loved the experience! It gave me great hope for my future with Maths and I now want to become a professor. I love how he combined sports with Maths! Utterly sensational!”
